“Wicked” filmmaker Jon M. Chu is staying in his lane for his next effort once that film’s second part hits cinemas next year.
Multiple Oscar-winning English songwriter Tim Rice has confirmed to The Irish News that he and Andrew Lloyd Webber are writing new songs for Chu’s next project – an adaptation of Webber’s famed musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”.
Rice wrote the lyrics for the original Webber musical along with plenty of others like “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Evita”. He’s also famed for his work on Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin” and “The Lion King,” and even wrote a Bond theme tune with “All Time High” for “Octopussy”.
Prior to “Wicked,” Chu also helmed the film adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda’s “In The Heights”. The “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Now You See Me 2” director told Deadline last month the script for ‘Joseph’ is still being written and he’s currently focused on post-production on “Wicked: For Good” to get it ready for release in November next year.
Singer Britney Spears has teased her involvement in Chu’s adaptation of “Joseph,” but Chu has refused to either confirm or deny that talk.
