ROG Xbox Ally Release Window Verified By Major Outlet, But Questions Remain Over Price

“Microsoft hasn’t yet fully committed to a price point”

Back on Friday of last week, we highlighted an exclusive report on the ROG Xbox Ally price and release date from YouTuber eXtas1s, and now we’ve got a bit more to share on this courtesy of Windows Central.

In an article on Windows Central today, editor Jez Corden states that the outlet “can corroborate the October launch window” mentioned by eXtas1s, as well as noting how the release date is “tentatively slated” for late October.

“We can corroborate the October launch window, tentatively slated for late October.”

It sounds like the release timing is pretty much set in stone, then, but what about the price? eXtas1s reported the other day how the white ROG Xbox Ally would likely be priced at €599 and the black ROG Xbox Ally X would be priced at €899, with the potential for the US prices to be $100 less for each device – although he wasn’t sure about that bit.

Jez is saying he’s not confident about the US estimates as things stand, especially as “Microsoft hasn’t yet fully committed to a price point”. He believes the ROG Xbox Ally X could end up being between $899 and $999 when all’s said and done.

“As of writing, our sources tell us that Microsoft hasn’t yet fully committed to a price point.

Speaking with me on the Xbox Two Podcast, systems engineer and PC gaming handheld authority Cary Golomb said he expected a Z2E handheld to come in between $899 and $999, and the base Z2A Xbox Ally to run between $499 and $599 — I’m eager to defer to Cary on this one, despite the rumors.”

Ultimately, nobody has all the answers on ROG Xbox Ally pricing right now – because it sounds like even Microsoft isn’t totally sure. That original report from eXtas1s sounds mostly accurate, but there’s no guarantee it’s 100% correct.

We’ll hopefully find out some official information from Microsoft in the very near future, as it’s been suggested that pre-orders for the ROG Xbox Ally handheld will begin in August. Maybe an announcement will come our way in July?
