Following Galaxy Unpacked 2025, Samsung Electronics hosted the Galaxy Tech Forum on January 23 in San Jose, California, bringing together tech leaders and industry experts to discuss the future of AI, sustainability, health, and smart home technology. The event took place at Blanco, an Urban Venue, blending historic architecture with modern design in the heart of Silicon Valley.
The forum featured four key sessions: Sustainability, Health AI, Galaxy AI, and Home AI, with discussions centered around the disruptive potential of AI and its transformative impact on various industries. With 100 media representatives and industry professionals in attendance, the forum provided insights into how Samsung’s mobile innovations and partnerships are shaping a sustainable future.
Driving Mobile Innovation and Sustainability Samsung is committed to driving innovation while prioritizing environmental sustainability. Daniel Araujo, Head of Sustainability Management Office, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized Samsung’s progress in sustainable practices across the product lifecycle, made possible through collaborations with like-minded partners.
The Galaxy S25 series marks a milestone in product circularity, incorporating at least 50% recycled cobalt, with batteries made from recycled cobalt sourced from older Galaxy smartphones.
Leveraging Galaxy Camera Technology for Marine Conservation Samsung has integrated over 150 tonnes of discarded fishing nets into Galaxy devices since the Galaxy S22 series, recognizing the impact of ocean-bound plastic on coral reefs.
Dr. Stuart Sandin, a professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego, highlighted that coral reefs support a quarter of all marine life and that over 50% of reefs have already been lost due to environmental threats.
Michael Stewart, co-founder of Seatrees, a nonprofit dedicated to marine ecosystem restoration, announced the organization’s partnership with Samsung, followed by a trailer for Coral in Focus, a documentary showcasing these efforts.
To support Seatrees’ mission, Samsung developed Ocean Mode, a new camera setting on the Galaxy S24 Ultra that enhances underwater photography. This feature will contribute valuable visual data for 3D mapping coral reefs, aiding conservation efforts.
Empowering Young Leaders Through Technology Beyond environmental initiatives, Samsung continues to empower young leaders through its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Cassie Smith, Senior Manager of Corporate Sustainability and U.S. Public Affairs at Samsung Electronics America, highlighted the Samsung Global Goals app and the Generation17 initiative, which has provided young changemakers a platform to drive social impact.
Tamara Gondo, CEO of Liberty Society and a Generation17 Young Leader, shared how the initiative helped her scale her business, which funds upskilling programs for marginalized women. Samsung’s commitment to nurturing future leaders continues, with a new group of Young Leaders set to be announced later this year.
Samsung’s Commitment to a Sustainable Future The Sustainability session at the Galaxy Tech Forum showcased how mobile technology is addressing global environmental and social challenges. With ongoing partnerships, innovative product designs, and AI-driven solutions, Samsung is paving the way for meaningful change in the tech industry.
