“Shōgun” Season 2 Scripts Have Been Written

FX
“Shōgun” dominated the TV drama category during this Friday’s Critics Choice awards, bringing the cast and crew back out on the red carpet to cap off a year of awards recognition for the title.

As previously reported, the originally planned as a limited series adaptation of the famed James Clavell novel is being turned into an ongoing historical drama series with a second and third season in the works.

Asking for an update on how that season is progressing, co-creator Justin Marks gave an update and indicated they’re pretty much done with the scripts – now they have to work out production logistics:

“We’re coming out of the writers room now. We’re also done with the ten episodes and we have our finale now. That’s allowing us to start figuring out how we’re going to shoot this. But we’re very excited about the plan.

I think the thing to take away, more than anything, is how, I hope people are going to be surprised with some of the big ideas as soon as the first episode of part two. So, we’ll start there and see where it takes us for future stories. But we’re really excited about it, especially for [Hiroyuki Sanada].”

Asked what he hopes to see in a second season, leading man Hiroyuki Sanada says: “In Season 1, [Toranaga] didn’t become a Shōgun yet. So, I’d like to see him become the leader of Japan. That is my hope.”
