Tencent, CATL and Other Companies Have Been Included in the US DoD’s CMC List

Tencent, CATL and Other Companies Have Been Included in the US DoD’s CMC List

On January 6th local time, the US Department of Defense released the latest version of the ‘Communist Chinese military company’ list through the Federal Register. Tencent Holdings Ltd., Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), ChangXin Memory Technologies, Inc. (CXMT) and drone manufacturer Shenzhen Autel Robotics Co., Ltd. have been newly added to this list.

Regarding this, Tencent Holdings Ltd. stated in a declaration, “It is clearly a mistake for Tencent to be included on this list. We are not a military enterprise or military supplier. Unlike export controls or others, this list does not affect our business. Nevertheless, we will work with relevant U.S. authorities to resolve the misunderstanding.”

CATL responded by saying: “This is an error; the company has not been involved in any military-related activities.”

A spokesperson from Quectel Communications stated that the company “has not cooperated with any country’s military and will request the Pentagon to reconsider its designation as it is evidently incorrect.”

SenseTime Technology expressed: “We believe that there is no factual basis for this action and strongly oppose it. The main impact of this list is that entities listed cannot become suppliers to the U.S. Department of Defense, which does not have a substantial impact on SenseTime’s business operations. SenseTime will actively communicate with all parties involved as soon as possible regarding this matter to ensure fair treatment and maximize protection of the company and shareholders’ interests.
