The Game Awards celebrated their 10th anniversary with a ceremony seemingly focused more on the future than the past – some awards categories handed out at a real clip in order to get on to the next first look trailer.
That said, there were some memorable moments, especially a heartfelt introduction to the Game of the Year award by a former winner praising titles that respected the developers and players, and focused on fun and longer term goals than short term profits and exploitation of workers and gamers.
Thus it was fitting that “Astro Bot” took the top honor of Game of the Year as well as the most awards for the night with four gongs.
“Metaphor: ReFantazio” and “Balatro” took three wins along with “League of Legends” in different forms, while “Helldivers 2” and “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2” scored two wins each.
“Black Myth: Wukong,” “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,” “Tekken 8,” “Neva,” “Frostpunk 2,” “Frostpunk 2,” and “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” all scored a win each.
