Naughty Dog, the developer behind The Last of Us, Uncharted, Jak & Daxter, and the original Crash Bandicoot games, finally revealed what it’s been working on since The Last of Us Part II launched in 2020. The game is called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and it’s coming to a PlayStation 5 near you. We saw the first trailer for it at The Game Awards, and in the days since, some more details have trickled out through interviews, blog posts, and social media. Doctor Strange’s portal—a skill that lets the sorcerer create a pathway between any two points on the map—is one of the most useful abilities in Marvel Rivals. Players have used it to set up game-changing plays like giving teammates a shortcut into the enemy backline, or sending foes falling to their deaths by putting a portal in front of their spawn point. Developer NetEase had already reduced the power of the portal through the game’s first patch, but given all the creative ways players are using it, I would not be surprised if we see this ability tweaked more in the coming months. It seems like every year or two, we have a new “Battlefield-killer” storming the market in the hopes of gaining a following within the large-scale first-person shooter market. Following the absolute disaster of Battlefield 2042, there’s a pretty large hole to fill. But is Delta Force—the free-to-play first-person shooter from developer Team Jade—destined to take the long-running franchise’s place? Probably not.
