The Time Traveler Train: Beijing Subway’s Blast from the Past

Last week, Beijing Subway relaunched their Time Traveler Train for the summer. This retro train’s design incorporates iconic features of Beijing’s subway system throughout history.

The six-carriage train includes classic Beijing subway models from the 1960s and 1970s on either end, each with their own unique seating layout.

The four center carriages display the designs of trains from the 1980s and 1990s, along with the ‘Dual Olympics’ themed carriage from the 2000s.

The train is full of informative displays conveying fun tidbits about Beijing’s culture and history. There is a poster for each stop describing the historical sites you can see in that area.

Each carriage is like a miniature museum with old subway tickets and maps from that decade.

The Time Traveler Train will run the length of Line 1 to the Batong Line and operate Tuesday to Sunday until August 31.

The train leaves from Gucheng Station at noon, and you can take it all the way to the Universal Resorts Station.

Hop aboard this unique train, learn a bit about the history of the Beijing Subway, and experience the city in a whole new way!
