Regarding the recent media reports on ByteDance‘s $7 billion purchase of NVIDIA chips, Douyin Group Vice President Li Liang responded that many aspects of the reports are inaccurate and the numbers are not correct.
Additionally, he also stated that ByteDance’s computing power procurement and data center construction are handled by colleagues in the systems department, and Zhang Yiming has never been involved. The descriptions in the reports are completely untrue.
Earlier, there were media reports stating that ByteDance plans to spend up to $7 billion by 2025 to purchase NVIDIA chips. As a result, ByteDance has become one of the world’s largest buyers of such AI chips. The report also mentioned that this project is led by ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming.
A spokesperson for ByteDance said that the above information is “untrue.” An NVIDIA spokesperson declined to comment.
