Top-5 : 1600 points for Ovi, who is nine goals from breaking Gretzky’s record

Top-5 : 1600 points for Ovi, who is nine goals from breaking Gretzky’s record

There was action on Sunday in the NHL.

Eight games were on the schedule.

Let’s see what happened:

That’s a wrap on an eight-game Sunday. Did your team bolster their playoff push with two crucial points?#NHLStats: https://t.co/uKbIjcEQak pic.twitter.com/xlh0fHbdDI

1: Ovi won’t stop
Alex Ovechkin was 10 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record before yesterday’s game.

This morning, he’s 9 goals away from breaking that record.

The Capitals’ captain scored his 33rd goal of the season in an empty net to secure the win for his team against the Seattle Kraken.

The Capitals won 5-2:

Ovechkin’s goal also marked his 1600th career point in the NHL.

He’s only the 11th player in history to achieve this feat.

Notably, the Capitals have 18 games left to play before the end of the calendar. If Ovi keeps up the pace, he’s going to break the record…

2: Stankoven and Rantanen stand out
Logan Stankoven played his first game with the Hurricanes yesterday.

And let’s say he knows how to make new friends.

The new player in Carolina scored his first goal with his new team and contributed to the Hurricanes’ 4-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets:

Meanwhile…

Mikko Rantanen tried to score his second goal in as many games with the Stars.

And that’s exactly what happened at the end of the game, when he took advantage of an empty net. The Stars won 4-1 against the Canucks:

Mikko Rantanen has 3 points in 2 games since joining Dallas.

He seems to be enjoying himself…

Notably, next Sunday, March 16, the Stars will visit the Colorado Avalanche.

Promising game ahead!

3: Perfect game for Crosby and Malkin
It was a special evening in Minnesota.

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin played their last game against their old friend, Marc-André Fleury.

And they took advantage of it to score a goal each:

Only two Penguins have scored against Marc-Andre Fleury so far…

Marc-André Fleury would have probably liked to beat his former teammates in their last career matchup, but the Wild lost 3-1.

And it was Sidney Crosby (again) who scored in an empty net.

A perfect evening for the Penguins in Minnesota!

4: Hat trick for Hertl and Fantilli
Tomas Hertl was on fire yesterday.

Why do I say that?

Because he scored three goals in his team’s loss to the Kings.

The Golden Knights lost 6-5:

Scoring three goals in a losing cause is definitely frustrating…

But Adam Fantilli didn’t have to experience that disappointment.

The young Blue Jackets star also scored three goals, but his team beat the Rangers 7-3:

Two hat tricks in the same evening… You don’t see that often!

5: Better luck next time, Zegras
Trevor Zegras is a talented player.

He has skills and isn’t afraid to show them off.

Yesterday, against the Islanders, he tried a Michigan goal… But his move didn’t work:

The Ducks had fun against the poor Islanders, by the way.

This game shows why the Ducks won 4-1:

I couldn’t talk about this game without showing Mason McTavish’s goal, which gave the Ducks a 3-0 lead.

Because the quality of this shot deserves to be shared:
