Universal Pictures has premiered a new TV spot with a few bits of new footage for the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon,” a reimagining of the iconic DreamWorks Animation title which hails from the original trilogy’s director and three-time Oscar nominee Dean DeBlois.
On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames) stands apart. Hiccup, the inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler), defies centuries of tradition by befriending Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon.
Their bond, which defies all expectations, reveals the true nature of dragons and challenges the foundations of Viking society.
Hiccup confronts this world built on fear and misunderstanding with the help of the fierce and ambitious Astrid (Nico Parker) and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost).
As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless is key to shaping a new future for both.
Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace and redefine what it means to be a hero and a leader.
The film also stars Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz, and Murray McArthur. Dean DeBlois wrote, produced, and directed it.
Marc Platt and Adam Siegel also produced the film, which was shot in IMAX as part of the Filmed For IMAX® Program.
Inspired by Cressida Cowell’s New York Times bestselling book series, the original animated franchise grossed over $1.6 billion at the global box office.
