Tyler Perry Called Out “Appalling” Insurance Companies For Their Treatment Of Wildfire Victims In LA”[It] was just gut-wrenching to me.”
Tyler Perry took to social media to voice his frustrations about insurance companies’ “pure greed” during the Los Angeles wildfires.
Thousands of homes have been destroyed in the devastating wildfires that have been running rampant in the Eaton and Palisades areas. According to AP News, the death toll has now risen to 24.
As many residents try to rebuild, the Los Angeles Times reported that some insurance companies were choosing not to renew home insurance policies in areas like Pacific Palisades and Altadena, which were greatly affected by the fires.
Not long after the article went live, Tyler opened up about experiencing this treatment firsthand. Over the weekend, the award-winning director shared a message on Instagram recounting the “appalling” actions of those companies.
“Watching a daughter use a garden hose to try and protect her 90-year-old parents’ home because their insurance was canceled was just gut-wrenching to me,” Tyler wrote on Instagram.
“Does anyone else find it appalling that insurance companies can take billions of dollars out of communities for years and then, all of a sudden, be allowed to cancel millions of policies for the very people they became rich on?”
He linked the act to “pure greed.” Tyler then announced that he’s in the process of finding a way to help those in need.
“People who have paid premiums all of their lives are left with nothing because of pure greed,” Tyler added. “As I am in the process of trying to figure out what steps to take to do all I can to help as many as I can, I am keeping everyone in my prayers.”
Many people, including celebrities, fled to the comments to share their anger, while some even opened up about going through similar situations with insurance companies. You can find Tyler’s Instagram post here.
