Universal Moves “Shrek 5,” “Minions 3” & More

Universal Pictures has announced some date shifts on their movie release calendar for titles in 2026 and 2027.

First up, DreamWorks Animation has announced that “Shrek 5” has set a new release date of Wednesday, December 23rd 2026. That’s a delay of nearly six months from a previous date of July 1st 2026.

Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz are returning for the new film which is aiming to open in 2026 in order to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. The film will now open near Disney’s “Ice Age 6” which will hit in December 2026.

Next, Illumination Entertainment has moved up its third “Minions” feature by a full year. The title, which was planned for June 30th 2027, will now take that old “Shrek 5” slot of July 1st 2026. It will open in a crowded month which also includes the live-action “Moana,” “Spider-Man 4” and Chris Nolan’s “The Odyssey”.

Universal has also announced that an untitled event film from Illumination that will take over the previous “Minions 3” release date of June 30th 2027. That untitled film was originally planned to open on March 19th 2027.
