After losing a child support battle against his ex-wife, Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a 36-year-old Nigerian physician residing in the United States, reportedly committed suicide.
The incident took place on January 26, 2025, a Sunday. Dr. Erinne, a native of Anambra State, has fought for custody of his children throughout a protracted and challenging divorce.
He was forced to pay $15,000 a month in child support after a U.S. court decided in favour of his ex-wife.
According to Clayton Udo, a Nigerian-American, who verified the news on X.com, Dr. Erinne suffered a terrible death as a result of the court’s decision, which placed a significant financial strain on him.
He wrote, “The ab**e of African men in the USA must stop. Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a skilled cardiologist, allegedly took his own life after being ordered to pay $15,000 monthly to his ex-wife. His case highlights problems in the legal system that affect African men.”
“He lost all his money in court. Then they took his medical license and ordered him to pay $15,000 every month. He was also given limited access to his children. In the end, he sh* himself,”* Udo said.
Additionally, according to Udo, Dr. Erinne lost his medical license as a result of the lawsuit and had to pay thousands of dollars in legal fees. Obim Onujiogu, another Nigerian residing in the United States, verified Dr. Erinne’s death on Facebook. He characterised him as a loving father and a kind physician.
The funeral for Dr. Erinne will be held in Maryland, USA, on Monday.
