vivo Releases A New AI Strategy, “PhoneGPT” Debuts

On October 10th, at the 2024 vivo Developer Conference, vivo officially launched a new AI strategy called “Blue Intelligence”, and also introduced a comprehensive upgrade of its self-developed BlueLM matrix, OriginOS 5 operating system, BlueOS2 operating system, as well as vivo’s latest achievements in security, humanity, and ecological cooperation.

At last year’s developer conference, vivo released a BlueLM matrix consisting of five language models. It was the first in the industry to successfully run 1B, 7B, and 13B edge-side large models. Additionally, based on the Blue Intelligence large model matrix, vivo launched the ‘Blue XiaoV’ and ‘Blue Thousand Inquiry’ apps.

vivo revealed at the conference that in November last year, the large-scale model of BlueLM ranked first in various major model rankings such as SuperCLUE, CMMLU, and C-EVAL. As of today, vivo’s AI capabilities have covered more than 60 countries and regions worldwide, serving over 500 million mobile phone users, with a total output of large model tokens exceeding 30 trillion.

At this conference, Zhou Wei, Vice President of vivo and OS Product Vice President and Director of vivo AI Global Research Institute officially announced vivo’s new AI strategy – Blue Intelligence. Zhou stated that BlueLM integrates large-scale model technology deeply into the mobile operating system to create personalized intelligence. With the BlueLM model as the technological foundation, Blue Intelligence can understand users’ personal contexts and preferences to provide personalized exclusive services; at the same time, it comprehensively protects user privacy and security; through deep integration into the system, it continuously builds more natural and intuitive interactions for users to bring a smarter and warmer experience.

At the meeting, Zhou showcased a new exploration based on the BlueLM technology, namely ‘PhoneGPT’, which is a mobile intelligent agent. In the demonstration, Blue XiaoV can not only recognize and operate screen interfaces but also engage in autonomous conversations through taking over audio to complete tasks assigned by users, such as helping users make restaurant reservations or order coffee.

‘This is a small step towards mobile automation but a big step towards freeing up users’ hands. With the development of AI, PhoneGPT will definitely bring more application scenarios in the future and provide better intelligent experiences, making XiaoV become a personal assistant that understands you better,’ said Zhou.

To further strengthen the foundation of AI capabilities, vivo unveiled a new self-developed BlueLM matrix at this year’s developer conference, upgrading its language and on-device large model capabilities. It also introduced vivo’s self-developed speech large model, image large model, and multimodal large model.

“In the future, Blue Intelligence will use the BlueLM Matrix as a technical foundation to continue exploring deep integration of AI with OS and continuously build an open and win-win intelligent body ecosystem,” Zhou Wei expressed.
