Vivo Restructures, Shifts AI Focus to On-Device Processing

Recently, Vivo has made significant adjustments to its organizational structure, announcing the establishment of a new AI division within its existing OS product domain.

This new division will encompass AI Departments One and Two, signaling Vivo’s continued investment and strategic layout in artificial intelligence technology. This change is also accompanied by senior personnel adjustments, with Zhang Fei, the former general manager of the Internet platform operations domain, being appointed as the general manager of the new AI domain and concurrently serving as the head of AI Department One, reporting directly to Zhou Wei, the company’s vice president and head of the OS product domain.

Notably, Vivo’s AI department is gradually shifting its large model training focus towards on-device processing. According to internal sources, although the company has invested substantial resources in AI large models, technical progress has been less than ideal due to heavy early management intervention. Based on this, Vivo has decided to temporarily suspend commercialization assessments and has halted further capital investment. On the technical front, Vivo’s cloud-based 70 billion-parameter large language model is currently undergoing fine-tuning and optimization, but its pre-training has been paused. This move indicates that Vivo has made a well-considered strategic adjustment for the long-term development of AI technology, rather than merely pursuing short-term commercial gains.

Furthermore, on February 25th, Vivo officially launched its full-fledged DeepSeek-R1, enhancing the intelligence level of its AI assistant, “Blue Heart Little V.” Users can experience the deep thinking and online search capabilities brought by the new model, as well as the convenient services of the “Homework Assistant” intelligent agent, after upgrading to version 5.2.1.22. This series of changes and technological upgrades demonstrates Vivo’s continuous exploration and innovation in the field of artificial intelligence.
