“When the Phone Rings” has unveiled a behind-the-scenes look at a romantic scene from Episode 10!
Based on a popular web novel, MBC’s “When the Phone Rings” tells the story of Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) and Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin), a couple that married for convenience—and the the romance that blossoms between them after a threatening phone call.
The newly released making-of video begins with Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin brainstorming the details of a pivotal scene where Hong Hee Joo shows Baek Sa Eon his text messages with Hong In Ah (Han Jae Yi). Chae Soo Bin actively contributes her ideas, suggesting, “Should I crouch down? I want to meet his eyes.” The duo rehearses this approach, resulting in an intimate and emotionally charged moment on screen.
Next comes the kiss scene between Baek Sa Eon and Hong Hee Joo. The two actors thoughtfully consider different positions to capture the perfect balance of romance and natural chemistry. They initially try performing the scene while seated, then explore an option where Baek Sa Eon gently lifts Hong Hee Joo to her feet before kissing her.
Chae Soo Bin then suggests another idea to Yoo Yeon Seok: having him sit her on his leg before their kiss. However, after testing the pose, both actors decide it feels slightly awkward. Ultimately, they settle on a sequence where Hong Hee Joo remains crouched before transitioning to sit beside Baek Sa Eon on the sofa, creating a seamless and tender progression for their kiss.
