Xiaohongshu Establishes Application Algorithm Department

Recently, Xiaohongshu integrated the algorithm departments of commercialization, community, and e-commerce, establishing a new Application Algorithm Department. It is headed by Xiahou from the Xiaohongshu Community Technology Department and reports to the Vice President of Technology at Xiaohongshu, Fengdi.

After joining Xiaohongshu, Xiahou initially focused on community algorithms and later became the head of the Community Technology Department at Xiaohongshu. During his tenure, he made significant contributions in areas such as community algorithms, integrated search, and ecological governance. This also served as a prerequisite for his recent appointment.

From community algorithms to overseeing algorithms related to both community and commercialization/e-commerce at Xiaohongshu, it goes without saying that Xiahou’s capabilities are remarkable. An industry insider mentioned that with his oversight over managing community content and commercialized content algorithms at the platform level can better balance platform content communities’ ecology with monetization needs.

In August this year, Xiao Hong Shu issued an all-staff letter announcing organizational rank adjustments which included no longer setting R ranks and adopting an appointment system for leaders at all levels. A person familiar with Xiao Hong Shu stated that this adjustment might be a continuation of canceling R ranks in August this year aiming for better implementation of flat management structure.
