Zhipu AI Launches AutoGLM Rumination: An AI Agent Blending Deep Research and Autonomous Execution

Zhipu AI, a Chinese artificial intelligence company, has introduced AutoGLM Rumination, an AI agent designed to combine deep research capabilities with operational execution. This tool autonomously addresses complex, open-ended questions by concurrently reasoning and searching the internet, reviewing numerous web pages, and generating detailed reports with cited sources. AutoGLM Rumination is available for free through Zhipu Qingyan’s PC client.

The development of AutoGLM Rumination includes several models:

• GLM-4 Base Model: Serving as the foundational architecture.

• GLM-Z1 Reasoning Model: Enhancing the system’s inferential capabilities.

• GLM-Z1-Rumination Model: Introducing advanced reflective thinking processes.

• AutoGLM Model: Integrating functionalities for autonomous operations.

Zhipu AI plans to open-source these core models and technologies on April 14 to encourage development within the AI community.

AutoGLM Rumination is capable of autonomously performing tasks by simulating human cognitive processes. It can navigate and interact with various online platforms, including those without public APIs, such as CNKI, Xiaohongshu, and WeChat public accounts. This multi-modal understanding enables the agent to comprehend both textual and visual information on web pages, contributing to comprehensive research outcomes.

The term “Rumination” reflects the model’s capacity for self-critique, reflection, and deep contemplation through reinforcement learning. This allows the AI to engage in extended periods of analysis to achieve optimal results. Users can currently access AutoGLM Rumination’s research and operational capabilities through the Zhipu Qingyan PC client, with plans to expand its functionalities in the coming weeks.

In a demonstration, the AI was tasked with summarizing key information from the 2025 Zhongguancun Forum. After several minutes of autonomous web browsing and analysis, AutoGLM Rumination produced a comprehensive report detailing the forum’s major technological achievements, thematic discussions, and collaborative outcomes. This illustrates the agent’s proficiency in dynamic perception, multi-path decision-making, logical verification, and autonomous execution.

The technology behind AutoGLM Rumination is based on Zhipu AI’s GLM series models:

• GLM-4-Air-0414: A 32-billion-parameter base model optimized for tasks requiring tool usage, internet search, and code generation. Despite its substantial capabilities, it operates efficiently, making it accessible on consumer-grade hardware.

• GLM-Z1-Air: An advanced model with enhanced reasoning abilities, performing well in mathematical problem-solving and complex queries. It matches the performance of larger models like DeepSeek-R1 but with improved speed and reduced operational costs.

• GLM-Z1-Rumination: This model integrates real-time internet search, dynamic tool usage, and self-validation to create an autonomous research loop.

Zhipu AI intends to make these models available to the global developer community starting April 14. This initiative is expected to accelerate the development and application of AI agents across various sectors, including finance, education, healthcare, and public administration. By collaborating with enterprises in these fields, Zhipu AI aims to demonstrate the practical benefits of Agentic LLMs in real-world scenarios.

Additionally, Zhipu AI is engaging in regional collaborations, having formed partnerships with state-owned enterprises in cities like Hangzhou, Zhuhai, and Chengdu. These alliances aim to promote the adoption of large-scale AI models and stimulate local economic growth through technological innovation. Internationally, Zhipu AI leads the “International Autonomous Large Model Co-construction Alliance,” collaborating with countries along the “Belt and Road” initiative to build reliable and trustworthy AI infrastructures.

The introduction of AutoGLM Rumination represents a development in AI agents, combining deep research capabilities with operational functions. As Zhipu AI continues to innovate and expand its ecosystem, the future of autonomous AI applications may have implications for various industries and human productivity.
